Identify potential hazards and take measures to childproof your home. Keep choking hazards, toxic substances, and small objects out of reach.
Use safety straps or brackets to secure large appliances and ensure they cannot be easily pulled or knocked over.
Install window guards or window stops to prevent falls from upper levels.
Install smoke detectors on each floor of your home, including inside and outside sleeping areas.
Never leave your child unattended in or near water, whether a bathtub, swimming pool or any other body of water.
Install safety gates at the top and bottom of stairs to prevent falls. Cover balcony railings with a safety net or mesh if there are wide gaps.
Keep all medications, vitamins, and cleaning products out of reach and locked away in cabinets.
Keep electrical cords and cables out of reach, or use cord organizers to secure them.
Have it inspected for lead-based paint and asbestos. Take appropriate steps to remediate or encapsulate them to protect your child's health.
